Forest of Reading

Welcome to the Forest of Reading!

The Forest of Reading is Canada's largest recreational reading program and is an initiative of the Ontario Library Association (OLA). The Forest of Reading offers reading programs for different age or grade levels. Each program is designed to encourage a love of reading and celebrate Canadian books, publishers, authors, and illustrators. Readers choose the program they would like to be a part of and simply begin reading! At the end of the program, readers vote for their favourite book/author in their category.

This year, we are excited to be offering SDG Library patrons the opportunity to participate in four of the Forest of Reading programs: Blue Spruce, Yellow Cedar, Red Maple, and White Pine programs. The programs run March-April.

How to Participate

Each program has been designed for a specific age or grade. The activities offered will fit with the titles being read, as well as the age/grade level the program is designed for. While the overall goal of each program is to foster a love of reading, participation will differ depending on the program. Click on the program icons below to learn more and register. We look forward to exploring Canadian books with you!
