Food For Fines - Wrap up!
Our annual Food for Fines campaign has wrapped up for another year, and we can’t express how truly amazed we are of the generosity and kindness shown throughout this two-week event. In total we received 513 items, resulting in $1,026 of fines waived! This system-wide initiative benefits not only our Library borrowers, but the people living in our communities and local Food Banks across Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry.
This year was a little bit different; hidden amongst the boxes of cereal, peanut butter, pasta, and sauce, you will find toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, hygiene products, diapers, and so much more. We challenged you to bring it ALL in our Food+ edition, and you surpassed any of our expectations.
Every year, the SDG Library encourages patrons to donate items and to pay it forward to those in need. Since our first campaign back in 2014, over 10,000 items have been donated by generous Library members. This has helped our communities in more ways than one. With every item that was donated $2.00 was waived from existing fines on patron’s accounts. In many cases the gesture of a few items, waived fines from multiple accounts. Over and over, again. Putting books and Library materials back into the arms of our community members. Doesn’t that warm your heart, just a little this holiday season?
On behalf of all the staff at the SDG Library, we want to say Thank you! Thank you for your support and generosity. Together we made a difference.
