“Food for Fines” at SD&G County Library
November 14, 2016
It’s November, and that means it’s time for the SD&G County Library’s Fall “Food for Fines” campaign. For the second time this year, Library patrons are encouraged to pay off Library fines with non-perishable food donations. For every item that is donated, one dollar in overdue fines can be waived. The program runs this Fall from November 19 to 26. Each branch collects food items on behalf of local food banks or organizations.
“Our Food for Fines campaign is a great way to give back to the community, as well as remove any outstanding fines that patrons may have”, says Susan Wallwork, Communications & Marketing Librarian. “This program has been offered for several years now, and each time the response from the communities has been fantastic. We are extremely grateful to everyone’s support.”
The program collected more than 1,400 items during the 2015 campaign. This year, the Library is offering the program twice a year; once in May, and once again in November. Items collected this November, will be in addition to the more than 600 items donated during the May campaign.
Any residents are welcome to make food donations at any of the Library branches even if they don’t have fines. Patrons without fines also have the option to use their donations to “pay it forward” and help pay down other individual’s fines.
To participate in the November “Food for Fines” campaign, visit your local SD&G County Library branch. Questions about the program can be directed to Susan Wallwork, Communications & Marketing Librarian, by phone at (613) 936 -8777 ext. 226, or by email at swallwork@sdglibrary.ca.
