SDG Reads 2018

The SD&G County Library’s annual community book club is back! Hailed as the largest literary event in Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry, SDG Reads encourages everyone in the United Counties to read the same book from now until October. To celebrate its fourth year, SDG Reads will be highlighting renowned Canadian author, Terry Fallis and his current novel One Brother Shy.
The Library announced its 2018 author and title selection at the Library Board meeting last night, May 3rd at the Alexandria Branch. Library Board Chair, Evonne Delegarde and Library Board Vice-Chair, Margaret MacDonald unveiled this year’s title by unwrapping two large models of the instant bestseller, One Brother Shy.
“The launch of a new ‘SDG Reads’ program is a very exciting time for staff at the Library”, said Karen Franklin, Director of Library Services. “We are eager to share that excitement with everyone who enjoys sharing a good read and who looks forward to the events that make up this program, culminating with a truly special evening with the author. Come join us for this year’s festivities!”
Library branches throughout the Counties will be offering various programs and activities that centre around themes found in the novel. These events, taking place from now until the Fall, will lead up to the culminating Author Event in October with Terry Fallis himself. Scheduled for October 18 at 6:00pm at North Stormont Place, the Author Event will feature a book reading, and a question and answer session with Mr. Fallis. There will be no charge for this event, however tickets are required to attend. Library staff plan to have tickets available in early September.

Terry Fallis is the co-founder of Thornley Fallis, a communications consulting agency with offices in Ottawa and Toronto. He is also the author of six national bestsellers, including One Brother Shy, Poles Apart and No Relation. His debut novel, The Best Laid Plans, won the 2008 Stephen Leacock Medal for Humour.
