The Library and Mental Health

The conversation on mental health is really buzzing these days. We’re finally talking about it and tearing down the stigma associated with mental illness. At the same time, we are realizing that mental illness affects many of us. Sometimes we can feel at a loss to know where to turn.  

The library can’t replace professional care, but it can be an important community resource in fostering strong mental health. With a wide variety of materials in print, ebook, and audiobook format, as well as eResources such as The Canadian Encyclopedia, Canadian Points of View, and LinkedIn Learning, the library offers a wealth of knowledge about mental health and illness. Your local Branch is also a great place to go to get out of the house when you’re feeling isolated or blue, either to participate in a program or to see a friendly face. Some of our Branches even have therapy lights for treating Seasonal Affective Disorder.
