Calling all emerging and inspiring artists to join in the kid’s bookmark design contest for March Break! This is a chance for young artists to see their creativity come to life as the SDG Library’s next official bookmark.
Open to all kids ages 0–13. Entries will be placed into two age categories for judging 0–8 and 9–13. Each group will have one winning design professionally printed. Every Library branch will receive copies of the winning bookmarks for visitors to enjoy.
How to participate
- Pick up an entry form at any SDG Library branch starting March 14.
- Design your masterpiece using flat art materials (crayons, markers, pens, pencils). Please avoid textured materials such as glitter, paint, clay, yarn, or embellishments.
- Return your masterpiece to any SDG Library branch by March 28.
Tips for parents/caregivers:
- Please ensure the child’s name, age, and contact information are filled out clearly on the entry form.
- Encourage bold, simple designs that will look great when scaled down.
- Remind them to fill the whole bookmark space with colour and creativity.
- Empower them to have fun with it – this is their moment to shine!

Who can enter the contest?
Contest is open to all kids ages 0–13. Entries will be placed into two (2) age categories: 0–8 and 9–13.
How do we get the template?
Pick up an entry form with the bookmark template at any SDG Library branch or download a copy to print here.
Can we submit more than one entry?
Yes, children can submit as many entries as they wish.
How will winners be chosen?
Library staff will select a shortlist of designs. The community will then vote in-branch and on social media to select the final winners. Entries will be judged based on theme, originality, and design.
When will winners be announced?
On May 4, winners will be contacted directly and announced on the SDG Library’s website and social media channels.

Contest Rules
Eligibility
- Participants must be 13 years of age or younger.
- All entries must be the original creation of the participant (we cannot accept tracings, copied designs or licensed characters).
Prizes
- Each winner will be awarded copies of their winning bookmark.
- Winning designs will be printed on bookmarks, distributed throughout the SDG Library system, and featured on the SDG Library website.
General Terms and Conditions
- By entering the contest, you agree to be bound by the contest rules and release SDG Library from any liability related to the contest or its prizes.
- By entering the contest, you grant SDG Library permission to post your artwork on social media, in print, and on electronic media. SDG Library reserves the right to alter or modify submitted artwork for promotional purposes.
- Participants release ownership rights of their artwork to SDG Library and agree to have it posted with their first name and age on SDG Library's social, print, and electronic media channels.
- Submissions will not be sold or distributed for profit, and your contact information will not be shared with third-party companies.
