Overview

A heat press is a machine used to transfer designs onto various materials, most commonly fabric using a combination of heat and pressure. It’s a popular tool for creating custom items with heat transfer vinyl or sublimation prints.

The MakerLab has two (2) heat press machines:
Cricut EasyPress 2
The Cricut EasyPress 2 is a versatile heat press tool ideal for applying custom graphics onto items like T-shirts, tote bags, and other fabric materials.

Cricut Mug Press
The Cricut Mug Press creates stunning and professional quality mugs using the infusible ink markers or using prints from the sublimation printer. Your finished project will be dishwasher safe!

A design is first typically made with a Cricut machine, and then the mug press heats the infusible ink sheets or infusible ink markers to transfer the design.

Heat Press FAQs

  • The SDG Library has a Cricut Mug Press which is a Cricut heat press product designed to wrap perfectly around the outside of a sublimation mug. A design is first typically made with a Cricut machine, and then the mug press heats the infusible ink sheets or infusible ink markers to transfer the design.

It also carries a Cricut EasyPress 2 that measures 9” x 9” alongside a heat press mat of the same size to protect work surfaces.

  • The MakerLab has sublimation paper as well as some heat transfer vinyl (HTV) that can be used with the EasyPress available for purchase. Colours and variety of the vinyl may vary.

  • The MakerLab has a limited number of sublimation mugs and totes available, so it is recommended that you call ahead or bring your own. Please check with staff that your mug is the proper material for sublimation using the heat press. The MakerLab has a sublimation printer, specialty paper, as well as specialty heat transfer markers that can be used in conjunction with the heat press and mugs with sublimation coating. The mugs for the Cricut Mug Press must be sublimation mugs of either 12 ounces or 15 ounces with straight walls.

  • Yes, it's recommended that you contact the MakerLab or use the online book form to schedule your visit to the MakerLab.
