The SDG Library and the Upper Canada District School Board Parent Involvement Committee (UCDSB-PIC) are happy to announce a new partnership aimed at strengthening parent engagement and enhancing student achievement and wellness.
As part of this partnership, the UCDSB has committed $13,000 through the work of PIC to support the purchase of books, which will be housed and circulated by the SDG Library. This collection of over 450 titles offers valuable resources for parents, teens and children, focusing on key topics such as mental wellness, addiction awareness, health and nutrition, emotional and social development, diversity and inclusion, and post-secondary support. The collection includes both fiction and non-fiction titles, with a strong emphasis on supporting Canadian authors and enhancing parent engagement.
"As an avid reader and advocate for free and accessible resources for children, teens and their parents and caregivers, I'm delighted that the UCDSB-PIC has been able to partner with the SDG Library to be able to give UCDSB families access to books that will support them along their educational and developmental journeys, " says Samantha Kutowy, UCDSB-PIC Co-Chair.
“We’re thrilled to be working alongside the UCDSB and the Parent Involvement Committee to bring meaningful resources to families in our community,” says Rebecca Luck, Director of Library Services. “This partnership reflects our shared commitment to education, wellness, and lifelong learning.”
“The Upper Canada District School Board’s Parent Involvement Committee plays an important role as an education partner. This partnership with the SDG Library is an excellent example of just one of the ways they have found to support student achievement and well-being. I want to congratulate everyone on this collaboration and the work that went into making this happen. The SDG Library has been an excellent partner. These books will support both students and families, at home and in the classroom,” says Vice-Chair of the UCDSB Lynda Johnston and PIC member.
The full can be viewed on the SDG Library's website - www.sdglibrary/UCDSB-PIC and patrons may request titles to be delivered to any of the Library’s fifteen (15) Branch locations across the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry (SDG). Additionally, patrons from other Library systems within the geographical region of the UCDSB can request titles through the Interlibrary Loan service.
The collection was launched on September 11 at the SDG Library’s Morrisburg Branch, with attendees from the UCDSB, UCDSB PIC, and the SDG Library Board.
