The SDG Library is pleased to announce a significant expansion of its Parent Resource Collection, made possible through a meaningful financial contribution from the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) and its Parent Involvement Committee (PIC). The PIC, composed of dedicated UCDSB parents, plays a vital role in providing meaningful parent participation at the Board level, with a core mandate of improving student outcomes and well-being.
Building on the existing collection of more than 450 titles, the SDG Library has added 168 new titles (180 books, including duplicate copies) arriving just as families prepare for a new school year. The expanded collection offers timely resources to support parents, caregivers, teens, and children, covering topics such as coping with anxiety, neurodiversity, 2SLGBTQIA+, gender identity, artificial intelligence, parenting strategies, screen addiction, healthy living, and mental health.
The collection offers something for every age: picture books that help children learn acceptance, healthy behaviours, and kindness; teen focused titles that support identity development, goal setting, and the transition to adulthood; and parent-centered resources that provide guidance for navigating today’s most pressing challenges.

It is a collection built by parents, for parents,” said Rebecca Luck, Director of Library Services. “These materials help families feel supported, informed, and empowered. We are deeply grateful to the UCDSB Parent Involvement Committee for their ongoing collaboration and support, and to our Library Collections Team for their thoughtful work in selecting and procuring titles that reflect the real needs of families across our region.”
The PIC collection is housed and circulated by the SDG Library. The full collection can be viewed on the SDG Library’s website, and patrons may request titles to be delivered to any of the Library’s fifteen (15) branch locations across the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry (SDG). Additionally, patrons from other Library systems within the geographical region of the UCDSB can request titles through their local library using the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service.
